Show transcript0:02I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Jonathan Murphy. I'm a performance artist.0:08Um, my work is heavily influenced by Chris Burden's performance art from the 70s.0:14Uh, he's the artist most famous for his piece Shoot, in which he had his friend shoot him in the arm with a 22 caliber rifle.0:23What you're about to see next is a piece of mine entitled Drowning.0:31I feel that this piece requires a little bit of explanation.0:36Um, when water enters the airway,0:41the vocal cords constrict and seal off the air tube, thus preventing any water from entering the lungs.0:49This is called a laryngospasm.0:52During this initial phase of drowning, very little water, if any, actually enters the lungs.0:59It actually fills up the stomach. Um...1:05My hands were bound, and a concrete block was placed on my chest.1:10Uh, this was done in order to weigh me down, but it also would help force air out of my lungs once I lost breath.1:17Uh, you'll see that, uh, nose clips were used as well in order to ensure safety.1:23My friends were instructed to wait for me to go unconscious and then immediately pull me out of the water.1:32So, I think that's pretty much it. Uh, let's watch.2:02You ready?2:03Yeah.3:45Help, help, help, help, help.5:03How is he?5:06I got a plan.5:13Still waiting.5:35Are you there?5:36Are you there?5:37Yeah.
