Show transcript0:00Many families across the country are starting to prepare for the summer diving season, summer driving season, maybe we should.0:06Both.0:06Yeah.0:07Both.0:07And as we all see the price of gas start to climb, one government agency is looking at a proposal by more than 50 ethanol producers to increase the ethanol content in gas.0:16That move would mean gas would contain at least 15% of ethanol instead of the current 10%.0:22But one group actually opposes the plan, saying it's costly and could hurt your car.0:26KOMU 8's Brandon Lewis joins us live now from Columbia. Brandon, what exactly are the 2 groups saying, and just how much are we talking here?0:33Well, the Environmental Working Group, it's a nonprofit organization that's pro-environment, says the E15 blend could damage a car's emission control system and pollute the air more than the current blend.0:43Now, that tough talk comes despite Growth Energy, an ethanol lobbying group, saying E15 will not harm emissions or harm engines.0:51It also says E15 is the most tested fuel additive in the history of the EPA.0:55Car concerns aside, researchers at the University of Missouri released their own study analyzing the cost of using more ethanol.1:03In a 53-page report, researchers concluded fuel prices would rise about 340 million dollars because of the increased corn prices.1:11Yesterday, corn futures on the Chicago Board of Trade hit an 8-month high of 4 dollars 45 cents for July amid supply concerns.1:18MU researchers say corn must be in plentiful supply, or ethanol gas won't lower the price at the pump.1:23To view the entire study, click on our website, KOMU.com.1:31Brandon, you are a dedicated reporter.
