Show transcript0:03Hey guys, this is Christopher Florence, and we're gonna play Sonic the Hedgehog 1.0:08I know a lot of you have, um, some hard times listening to that scary drowning music or, you know, trying to get through some platforming parts.0:17So we're not gonna, we're gonna just make it easy for you. We're gonna relax.0:20Don't have to worry about running out of time. We're gonna have a spin dash.0:23We're just gonna relax. We're gonna play easy. We're just gonna take it easy.0:27Nothing to worry about. No stress. Just have nice fun through the future, neo-futuristic world of Mobius.0:36We're gonna start a new game.0:39In the beautiful forest of the Green Hill, we've got a nice little extra platform there.0:44Don't have to worry about, you know, trying to jump up too high.0:47You've got your invincibility right off the bat. Then we get another one right here, you know.0:53I mean, sometimes you need to feel strong, you need to believe in yourself.1:00The world is a scary place, and you know, sometimes if, if you have to individually defeat everything, then you just might stress yourself out too much.1:08You might have a nervous breakdown. We're not gonna do that.1:10We're gonna just stay invincible pretty much this whole level, because that's the kind of people we are.1:16We could be heroes.1:19Sonic heroes.1:23I'm going to finish it up here, just into this nice little special stage here.1:27You know, in in in the world of of Sonic Jam easy mode, there's only 4 emeralds.1:32Not a lot to worry about at all. No stress. You know, and if if we get them, that's fine.1:38If we don't, that's fine. Emeralds are, you know, only temporary.1:42They're they're just kind of, uh, jewels. They're not, they're not going to give us any powers on this game.1:47We're not super. We can't go super, we can't go hyper. We're not going to turn into some kind of, you know, wonderful, gleaming Ultra Sonic that's going to save the day.1:55You know, the only Sonic that's going to save the day is the average Sonic, the average hedgehog, just a man, you know, on a mission.2:02And there's only 4 of them anyway, so, you know.2:08We're going to enjoy the nice, um, Greco-Roman architecture here in the Marble Zone.2:15True story, Sonic Team, when they were designing this game, actually, uh, went to Rome.2:22Yuji Naka went there, and he had a delicious piece of pizza, and his pizza was actually the inspiration for the special stage.2:29He had a poisoned pizza, and, uh, he got food poisoning and started hallucinating all over the place, and he started seeing birds turning into fish because of his, um, you know, obsession with MC Escher.2:41And then he said, we must make a special stage just like it.2:45And also, all this is pretty photorealistic, as you can see.2:47So, you know, these are the live photos they took of Rome.2:52You know, and you don't have to always crush Sonic. Look, I mean, you look.2:55Some of these can go up and down, and some of these don't have to.2:58It's just that you can relax. You don't have to have spikes up ahead here, you can just walk.3:05Just take a nice, leisurely, constitutional stroll through the countryside.3:09Why does everything have to be, you know, so very stressful?3:14I mean, look, Sonic, he's already kind of a blue guy, you know, no spikes up there.3:20And when he, you know, he look- he just looks cool and blue.3:22He's the only planet as cool and blue as him is Earth, and that's where he lives, on the planet Earth slash Mobius, maybe, depending on who you ask.3:31And, you know, there's some people lot worry about a lot of stuff.3:34They worry about whether he's, you know, Eggman or Robotnik.3:37I think Sonic needs to do this, or he needs to look like that, or, you know, Sonic is a nice guy.3:42He doesn't worry about these kind of things.3:48You know what Sonic worries about? Sonic worries about how he's going to get to the next level.3:53He doesn't worry about, you know, and on this game, he doesn't really even worry about bosses.3:57There's maybe like 2 bosses on easy mode.4:02He doesn't have to see Robotnik, you know, every time he sees Robotnik and his fat ass just walk around, you know, he- his blood pressure goes up just a little bit.4:10And on this game, we don't stress about that. 69.4:17Oh yeah.4:22So we're gonna try to get emerald number 2 here.4:26That's the kind of thing we do. We try to get these emeralds, but you know what?4:30Sometimes we miss them. But that's okay.4:37We don't have to worry about earthly possessions, you know. By the time we we we die and move on to the afterlife, we're not gonna be able to take it with us, so what's the point?4:48We're gonna come down here into the Spring Yard America's Favorite Amusement Park, spin dash out of here.4:54Uh, well, you know, at least, at least the spike balls are not moving,4:59and there's No spikes in here to worry about so much. You just kind of go through, enjoy yourself.5:04A nice little iridescent interlude5:08in the middle of the city, and there's no, uh, squashy platforms, you know, they're not so scary.5:16Just nice trampolines to bounce you straight up.5:20It's a nice world that we live in here, the purple skies. You know, we started out in the morning, now we're coming to the5:28late evening here,5:31and the city is this beautiful place.5:36I just wondered, is is this some kind of, you know, what's back there?5:39What does does Sonic like to go to the city sometimes, you know, buy a delicious loaf of bread, put a little butter on it, maybe add, you know, some chili and some hot dog slices, just to,5:51you know, class it up a little bit.5:57Oh yeah. Do do do do do do.6:05This is a beautiful place, it really is, especially without all these little spikes in here to kill you and things swirling around all over the place.6:15You know, sometimes I wish I was Sonic. I wish I could just run fast and be super limber.6:22Sonic should really need to, like, collect chili dogs or something because of his advanced metabolism.6:27But I guess, you know, in this kind of world, he's already eaten breakfast.6:33Had a mouthwatering, uh, chili dog breakfast, probably had chili dogs with eggs.6:39Little chili dog paella, if you will.6:48Now see, this, the, this level doesn't bother me so much, but it's just really a hassle sometimes if you don't get it just right.6:59What would really be cool, though, you know, in the real game, now not on the stress mode, not on this low stress, you know, simplistic mode.7:05What would be cool is if whenever the background changed to water, if you actually started to drown, that'd be pretty sweet.7:11And then the air came back right then, as the birds come back.7:16But you know what, on this game, we're not going to worry about that kind of thing.7:18That's the kind of thing for, uh, you know, ROM hackers and not official Sega ROM hackers who make the game easier for, you know, kids and women and people who like the Nintendo Wii.7:28Nothing wrong with that. We're trying to open up the gaming universe to everybody.7:32It's, it's, you know, people like to say, you know, the Wii is ruining hardcore gaming, but you know what?7:38Who cares? There'll always be a nice niche, but now the money is with your grandma.7:44Take it right out of her purse and, you know, give it to Shigeru Miyamoto so he can buy nice gardening tools.7:51That's just how he rolls.7:55Shigeru Miyamoto doesn't give a crap about Sonic.7:59Although, you know, he did say with Parappa that he was mortified with Parappa.8:04That's how powerful, you know, Parappa is. But Parappa's a cool guy.8:08He's a dog with a driver's license, which is kind of a scary thing.8:12Sonic doesn't need to drive, he, he, he just runs really fast.8:15So I guess, you know, it's the power of driving that can scare Japanese people.8:23Mm. Oh yes, in the scariest zone of all, the labyrinth zone.8:28You know, it's a fun park. It's really like a water slide. Nothing to be scary about at all here.8:34In this mode, there are plenty of bubbles. There's like a bubble every, every step.8:39Don't worry about it.8:42This is only one of two places designed by song designer Hirokazu Osuhara that has an infinite loop.8:50There's this, and then there's the Metropolis Zone on Sonic 2.8:56They both have infinitely vertically looping levels.9:00You know, it's kind of a zen moment. You think about it for a second, and it's wait, it's just keeps going forever.9:05It's a beautiful thing, really.9:11And you know, there's less spikes here, not as many fireballs, not as many things to kill you, not all these crazy Octorok shooting spikes at you, you know?9:21You can just kind of relax. Just breathe it in, breathe it in, you know?9:28You're not gonna listen to any, any of this music here just in case, you know, just in case there's actual drowning music.9:33There probably won't be because in this situation, you know, there's a bubble every 2 steps in this game now, and I, I don't think I'll drown, but, you know, it's just to relax people,9:43you know, there's none of that scary drowning music, you know.9:48I mean, I, I kind of understand that. I mean, I don't know how young you guys are.9:53I played this game when I was like 10 or something, so I mean, I don't, I don't know, you guys might have been 4 or something to be scared of the drowning music.9:58It's, it's kind of lame.10:02Yes, in this level, if you notice, has some nice ripple effects from Sonic Revision C, I think.10:11Sometimes it has, sometimes it don't. Sometimes the clouds move in Green Hill, sometimes they don't.10:18The weird part about Sonic Jam now, you know, is the music. It's all comes from the the CD itself, it's all Red Book audio, so it's not like, uh, it's being emulated from the Genesis.10:28So, you know, if you were kind of annoyed by it starting over, you know, whenever you get a, uh,10:34drowning music, you'd be really annoyed on this game because the music will start over when you get a 1-up, when you get invincibility, you know.10:42But you know what, to avoid that annoyance, you know what I did?10:44Just got rid of the soundtrack. We're not gonna listen to the Sonic music.10:46You've heard it a million times. You've heard all the remixes and all the cool kids who like to remix the music, you know.11:04This is such a low gravity world.11:09Maybe Sonic's training for space travel, that'd be cool. He does go to the Starlight Zone next, but, you know, I think he might be just training for the space program.11:16That'd be cool to send a hedgehog into space.11:20And maybe we're all evolved from like a super advanced form of hedgehogs from the planet Mobius.11:26Maybe this is a prequel to our lives.11:29Maybe Sonic and his kin, you know, all trained in the Labyrinth Zone, built advanced spaceships, and then flew to the planet Earth to start the plot of Sonic Adventure.11:42And they became that bikini girl that you can hit on, which is pretty sweet.11:52Ah.11:59Bubbles, bubbles everywhere, not a drop to drink.12:09What does that even mean?12:16The surface is right up there, but who cares? We're gonna just keep breathing.12:19Yep. Keep breathing.12:28You know, if you look in the background there, you see those little panels?12:32That's actually a precursor to the new villain in, uh, Sonic the Hedgehog Unleashed, coming soon to Xbox 360 and, uh, PlayStation Triple.12:47He actually built the labyrinth zone himself. They didn't do it on purpose back here,12:53but I have an inside source. I mean, actually, I, okay, I, to be truthful, I actually am a QA tester for Sonic 10, and I've been playing Sonic Unleashed.13:03I've been working hard on it. We've got some cool new wraps I think you all will like.13:08We're going to make it a little bit easier like this here. Sometimes, you know, you need a lot less spikes, a lot less fireballs.13:13You just need to run away.13:16And in Sonic Unleashed, you'll be able to run really fast a lot.13:19I think you'll like it.13:22Switch from 2D to 3D like every couple seconds, and, you know, be able to defeat your evil ferals.13:31I mean, the werewolf's kind of stressful. It's kind of iffy right now, but I'm sure it'll work out by the end.13:39Also, for all you Sonic fans, we're hiring the original Sonic back.13:43Yes, Jaleel White will be playing Sonic once again in Sonic Unleashed, but, you know, if all goes according to plan, which it rarely does, unfortunately.13:59Mm, yeah.14:09Sonic has kind of a long day here.14:13Like I said in the thread, he just starts out in nice, wakes up Green Hill, midday in Marble Zone, evening in the Spring Yard, nighttime here in Starlight, and, you know, by the time it's dusk in the Scrab Brain,14:28he's had a full day on his hands.14:32Luckily, he's already eaten his breakfast and he's ready to go.14:38Extra trampolines will help you go up there a little bit.14:51Not enough rings to get the last emerald anyway, but, you know, like I said, we didn't have, we didn't have the emeralds anyway.14:57They weren't ours to have, and we can't really Worry about whether, you know, we should have had them or not.15:02We just have to kind of accept what they are.15:07On a real game, this would have been a bottomless pit, but, you know, here it's a nice little trampoline.15:16Things change.15:22I should have gone the other way. Because even on this one, the bottom way is still hard, kinda.15:28I should have gone the same way. Ah, screw it.15:31You know, you can think of shouldas, couldas, and wouldas all you want, but you know what?15:36All you can really do is just move on with your life. You can't sit here and live with regrets the whole time.15:43Regrets are like, um, chocolate. They're, uh, brown, sometimes a little bit too chalky for you, and you can give them to your girlfriend, but she'll get fat anyway, you know?15:54That's, that's the way of life.15:58I have a certain philosophy. I like to say,16:02sometimes you hold them, and sometimes you fold them.16:07I got that from Tennessee Williams, the great country singer.16:12And, you know, he likes to say a lot of things. I like to listen to him.16:17He has his own website now, and I just kind of go to it every day.16:21You know, down there, actually, you know what, if you fall down there, there's, you're safer because on a real game it's a bottomless pit.16:26On this game there's kind of fence like stuff.16:30Nice little stuff to protect you so you can just bounce right back up.16:35But I like to go to TennesseeWilliams.biz every day and, you know, get my inspiration for the day, say a little prayer,16:44meditate, and relax.16:48And I mean, I'm sure I prayed that I would get all the emeralds, and it didn't really work, but that's the way things go.16:59He is really polluting a lot back there.17:03That cannot be according to FDA regulations.17:08Of course, this final zone on easy, we get some nice rings here.17:12And yeah, only one of them pops up there, so... And plus, instead of 4, you only have to dodge 3 of these things.17:20Simplística.17:28Overall, I would rate this experience 10 out of 10.17:32Would play again. Pleasure doing business with you.17:44And, you know, we'll get a bad ending.17:48We don't get the the thrill of, uh, jumping up into the sky and making, you know, some homosexual flowers, but17:57we do get the thrill of just, you know, pointing, pointing at you.18:00You're the player. Good job. You've done a good, good job.18:06And we love you.18:09You are our friend. You are special.18:18Hiro Kazuyasu Haraj.18:23That guy's pretty cool. That guy actually, I wish he would still design Sonic games, but now he works for Naughty Dog.18:29He worked on Jak 2. He's one of the lead designers of Uncharted.18:34So he's busy. He's the only, out of the 3 dudes, Yuji Naka, Naoto Ohshima, and him, he's like the only dude who makes, still makes lots of awesome stuff all the time.18:43He's also the only man on Earth who could design a Sonic game, and it's really sad.18:48You know, you date, you did, you notice how Sonic CD feels different because he didn't design it.18:52You know, the Super Mario World feels different, he didn't design that even.18:57It's a real shame. He should just design every game automatically.19:05No one seems to be able to design a 2D Sonic level. I don't know what it is.19:10The Sonic fans can't agree on anything, you know. Some of them want it to go super fast, some of them want it to go super slow.19:19You want to explore, or do you want to play, or I mean, what do you want to do?19:25Ask Yamita and Maki, they probably know.19:35But Sonic promotes from within, and I'm going to be the director on Sonic Unleashed 2, so I think you all will, will enjoy that one a lot.19:41Got some upcoming tricks with Amy Rose's new boyfriend, Dexter, from Sonic Chronicles.19:46He'll become a full-fledged character19:50in the real canon universe.19:53So I hope y'all liked it.
