A news report shares 911 calls apparently made by Joe McCain, who complained about traffic on the Wilson Bridge and then called back to dispute the operator's warning.
Show transcript0:01 Only on 7 tonight, we have the tape of a 911 call that appears to have been made by John McCain's brother earlier this week. 0:07 He called the police emergency line because he was angry he was stuck in traffic. 0:11 Scott Thuman is live in Alexandria with what's on that tape. 0:14 Scott? 0:15 Yeah, Gordon, we're talking about those 911 recordings that were just released, and as you mentioned, appear to come from Joe McCain, John McCain's brother. 0:22 They came in here to the city of Alexandria a couple of nights ago, all because of some bad traffic. 0:29 How is the 911 to take your emergency? 0:32 Well, it's not an emergency, but do you know why on one lane, on one side at at the damn drawbridge on 95, traffic was stopped for 15 minutes, and yet traffic's coming the other way across the draw? 0:44 Are you calling 911 to complain about traffic? 0:50 The complaint call about traffic on the Wilson Bridge, outrageous enough that the 911 operator called back. 0:56 The voicemail on the other end appears to belong to Joe McCain, brother of presidential candidate John McCain. 1:04 Hi, this is Joe McCain. I'm involved in a very important family political project. 1:10 I think it's horrible. I can't believe that somebody would tie up valuable resources to complain about traffic. 1:16 It seems stupid. My name can be found. I'm going to be tagged to this. 1:20 I'm going to host my brother. Why would I do it? 1:23 But that wasn't all. McCain then called 911 again to complain about the message the operator just left him, warning him such use of 911 is criminal. 1:33 Somebody gave me this riot act about the violation of police. 1:36 Did you just call 911 to ask this? 1:39 Yeah. 1:39 The 911 is used for emergencies only, not, not for just because you're sitting in traffic. 1:44 Future president, whatever, possible president, can't control what somebody does, but this gentleman should be fined or something should happen to him. 1:54 Now, we've talked to the McCain campaign about these calls so far. 1:58 They have refused comment. We also tried to reach out to Joe McCain. 2:02 We are still waiting to hear back from him. Live in Alexandria tonight, Scott Thuman, ABC 7 News.
