Donnie demonstrates removing a cat from a carpet photo in Photoshop, then adds a fake stain to cover editing mistakes while getting interrupted by friends.
Show transcript0:01 Hi, my name is Donnie, and you s- suck at Photoshop. Let's... 0:07 we- let's waste another 5 to 6 minutes of my life and see if we can do something about it. 0:12 Um, what we're gonna do today is we're gonna reel it back from the last tutorial. 0:16 It was a little tricky, I think. We're just gonna do some old school Photoshop stuff. 0:20 We're gonna remove a foreground object off of its background and, you know, replace the background, make it look like it disappeared, you know, the old, you know, and then we'll throw a lens flare on it. 0:31 You know, it's going to be one of those old awesome old Photoshop tricks. 0:34 So let's start by opening up Bridge. We need to get a photo that you think you can pull the background off, so maybe something consistent like a texture that you can recreate. 0:44 Um, maybe you got a picture of a friend or somebody that, you know, you want to trick up a little bit, you want to have a goof on, um, or you know, or hey, or maybe you've got a picture of the cat your wife rescued without talking to you first and brought it home and made your house 1:02 a cat toilet, and then when her emergency is business meeting came up this weekend, she refused to let you take it to a kennel and that you'd have to be, you have to watch the cat this weekend. 1:16 Do you have that photo? I do, so let's open that up. So here's our photo, and and basically what I want to do is get rid of the cat. 1:29 Oh, the first thing I'm going to do is organize some layers. 1:31 Let's start a new layer group called new carpet, because what we're going to do is, I know what you did. 1:36 Hey, I saw it. You went over to the clone stamp tool, didn't you? 1:40 Wrong. St- put it down. We're going to go, we're going to go do it. 1:45 That's Bush League, and we're gonna do it this way. We're gonna just go grab some carpet samples, and we're gonna drop them in, and we're gonna rebuild the carpet. 1:52 Everything's gonna be all right. Just settle down. All right. 1:55 So we've got, uh, we've got a, a layer called new carpet, a layer group called new carpet. 2:00 Let's copy the background so we can come back and see what we did later on. 2:04 Um, and then, then we're going to, uh, start grabbing some carpet samples. 2:10 Now you're going to grab the marquee tool, and you're going to start selecting. 2:16 Hold on a second. 2:17 No, I'm kidding. 2:18 What? 2:19 Hey, bitch tits, uh, are you going to 2:21 Dude, 2:21 log on and do this raid with us or not? 2:23 But, hey, listen, I told you that I had to do this. 2:26 No, hold on a sec. I need a rev. 2:29 I can't. 2:29 But nobody can give me a rev. 2:30 I can't, I can't go out there right. 2:32 Honey. 2:34 Hold on. 2:34 She's caught out, isn't she? 2:35 I can't. 2:37 Hold on! 2:38 Oh, she wearing those leather chaps, those assless chaps. Oh, dude, that is not a business meeting. 2:45 I'll call you back in a, in a little bit. God, cobbler. 2:49 I'm still on. 2:52 Ass 2:52 Goodbye. 2:52 chaps is not a business meeting. 2:56 All right. I, I've got to go for a, so, um, finish covering up the cat with carpet, and I'll be right back. 3:07 Okay, uh, I'm back. I guess if you, uh, took the time to cover up the cat with the carpet, you'd probably look something like this, um, or probably not as good. 3:17 You've probably got a lot of problems, and if you do have a lot of problems, then what we need to do is figure out a way we can cover up those mistakes. 3:23 So let's do that now. We'll create a new, uh, a new layer and make a stain. 3:29 In our house, that's not going to be a problem. I mean, these things are all over the place. 3:34 So just sort of create kind of a stain shape. 3:38 And let's pick a, you know, maybe your cat, um, actually pees shit, which is, which is what our cat does. 3:46 It's kind of weird. So let's get like a pee poo color and, uh, 3:53 fill that in there. And, uh, we want to just take this layer, and we're going to, um, select all. 4:00 We're going to do a little Gaussian blur on it just to soften it up the edges. 4:05 Just a few pixels, not too much, because it had time to really bleed out in the carpet and kind of make its mark there. 4:12 Now let's, uh, for this layer, let's set it to multiply, and then we have, we've got a good stain now. 4:17 We need to pull the opacity way down and make it look like it's been there for a while. 4:22 Yeah, that's, that's, now it's starting to look like my carpet. 4:25 Let's grab our eraser tool again, get a nice sized brush, and just, we want to just start clicking and modeling it a little bit because, you know, no stain is super geometric like that. 4:35 So we're just going to kind of take away some of the edges, and, you know, maybe it got some of the pee-poo was just a little thicker in places because, um, Bridget Jones, the cat, 4:47 just happened to have like some, um, canned food that night. 4:51 That looks like a good stain, and that kind of covers up our trouble, and you can move it around to wherever it might serve you best. 4:56 Um, so that's looking pretty good. Now all we hit, fuck. 5:02 I'm come. 5:04 Give me 5 more minutes. 5:04 Are you on your period? 5:05 Please. 5:06 Log on. 5:06 Stop. 5:07 Grow a fat. 5:07 Stop. 5:08 Grow a fat. 5:10 Um, so what do you have now? You've got... 5:15 You've, you've got the cat is still here. Now, if you want to, you can use the cat somewhere else on the photo. 5:22 You could, uh, you could take the cat, um, I think maybe you like... 5:30 maybe we could put the cat like up in the bag, you know, with just whatever strikes your fancy. 5:35 If you're, if you're using, you know, drop your 5:40 tool, tool down and just kind of rough these edges out of here, just get the cat kind of smashed in the bag. 5:48 And I, you know, 5:51 the cat never really did anything to me, just came, just came in at a bad time, and s- so I'm not saying that I've got anything against the cat exactly, but that maybe, you know, it just came into my life when I needed some attention, 6:09 and I needed to be able to walk around and and mark my territory and.
