A Photoshop CS5 demo jokingly uses Content-Aware Fill to finish homework, make a sandwich from scattered ingredients, and tidy a messy bedroom in seconds.
Show transcript0:01 Hi, I'm sure you're all as amazed as I was with the new content aware fill function in Photoshop CS5. 0:09 I wanted to show you some of the more practical uses of that, maybe beyond taking out lens flare. 0:14 So here you can see I've got a scanned image of, I started my homework tonight, um, you know, I've written out the problem, I started the solution, but it's getting late and I really don't want to do the whole thing. 0:25 So what I'm going to do is I'm going to come up here and I'm going to select this blank area underneath it here, and I'm just going to let Content Aware Fill go and work through that. 0:37 And we're going to see what it can do here. And look at that. 0:42 Great. So it actually filled out the rest of the problem. These look like the right answer, and you can see it's actually interpolated from my handwriting up here and brought it down here to actually solve this problem in my handwriting. 0:54 So that's a wonderful feature over there. Um, and now I'm done with my homework. 0:58 That saved a lot of time. Um, so I'm kind of hungry now. Let's switch over to another picture. 1:05 You can see here I've got, uh, some ingredients laid out, but a sadly empty plate. 1:10 Uh, if I'm hungry, this is no good. So let's see what our little friend, Content-Aware Phil, can do here. 1:16 Bring out the lasso tool and circle this little sad empty plate here, 1:22 right? Just up like that, and hit delete again with the content aware fill, and that'll take just a minute through there. 1:31 And wonderful, it's made a sandwich, which is exactly what I intended it to do. 1:35 So clearly this is a very smart algorithm we're looking at here. 1:38 um, I can see that it's used the cheese, the spinach, and the chicken in here. 1:43 That looks like a delicious sandwich. Fantastic. All right, I'll show you one more, uh, cool application. 1:50 So what I've got here is a picture of my room. Uh, this is kind of the general state of things. 1:55 I've got clothes everywhere on the floor, but it's really not presentable. 1:59 Say, you know, if I'm having people to come and want to look at my apartment, if I'm posting things online, or what have you. 2:07 So we've seen before that if, uh, we want to remove something like just this sock off the floor, Content Aware Fill can do that very easily. 2:21 Right there, it's gone, it's filled in the carpet, it's wonderful. 2:24 Um, but what they didn't show you in the other videos is that this new suite actually has a progressive learning capability. 2:30 So what I'm doing here really is I'm teaching it to clean up my room. 2:33 That's what I'm doing, picking up clothes off the floor. It's learning that what I want to do is clean this up. 2:39 So let's go ahead and select the entire thing here and see what I can do with my whole room. 2:47 So again, delete with content aware fill. This might take a few seconds, you know, because we've got a bigger image here, and it's a pretty messy room. 2:55 Let's see, let it chew through that for a minute. And hey, there we go. 3:00 That's great. I don't think I ever make my bed that straight, actually. 3:04 Wonderful. So, as you can see, very presentable picture. That was loads faster than cleaning it myself. 3:09 You know, actually, I think we can even make this slightly better. 3:13 I bet our little friend Content Aware can figure out what I would like over here. 3:22 Fantastic. Well, there you go. A wonderful tool, and Adobe Photoshop again proving that everything you see is probably a lie.
